Parlor Games

I am not that familiar with parlor games.  But one that I have seen done is the one where everyone has a name on their back and people discribe this person till they guess it right.  It could work but probably not in the game.  Another game that could be fun is just a giant game of tag in the game.  One that would be epic but would need help of programers would be capture the flag.

Reaearch Questions

So I lost most of my files on my computer by the fact that I can no longer see what is on my screen.  So I am going to ytry my best to remember what my research questions were and my method of research.
The most pressing question I had that I hope to answer with my research questions is that I want to discover what kind of role Peer Pressure is in Griefing.  I want to know how large greifing things happen, who orginizes them and how easily people follow their higher ups.

My method of obtaining this information will be by checking greifing forums and a large question based part.  I will give out a large survey to about 150 to 200 people and have a more specific question and answer period with about 25 people.

3 steps

So in order to do research we have to do our best at being un-biased and non-judgmental.  Doing this can be hard to do.  I know that extremely emo kids annoy me.  I have nothing against them but they just really push my buttons.  So there should be a way of talking and interviewing people that annoy you without being biased.

So Here are some ideas that I have that could help one become un-biased.

1.  stay away from questions that will lead them to answer in an objective way.  This might sound a bit weird but lets say that you are doing a survey and you don't really need long answers then staying away to questions that will leave those opportunities open will help.  Most of the times when people bother us t is because of the way they act.

2.  try to understand the people that annoy you.  If you understand this then maybe they wont upset you as much.

3.  another possible way to deal with bias is to get someone else to interview the people that annoy you.  That way your bias is taken out of the picture

Guilds

So in our class the time has come to decided on a guild to join.  I am not very found of this idea.  In my opinion guilds are basically fraternities. If they could I have no doubt that almost every guild would haze and have some kind of crazy initiation for anyone that wants to join. I also do not like them because I am a casual player and I do not want to join a guild where everyone starts to get all pissy because I can't go on a raid with them.

But since we do have to choose a guild I am looking for one that is casual, beginner friendly, and a none role-playing guild.

Based on those parameters I have found a few guilds that I might be interested in joining.
They are; Silver Blades, Knights of 3305, and Omega. They seem to be people that are playing just for the fun of the game. hey also seem like people that do not take things to seriously and freak out on other members.

Bartle player types

So I took an online MMORPG quiz and this is how it came out.

I am Killer typer. Thew break down is 67% killer, 60% Achiever, 47% socializer, and 27% Explorer.
This quiz also recommended to me games that I would like, and to no surprise World Of Warcraft was the first one.

So I had some problems with this quiz. Fist off I did not like how there was only 2 questions for each round. In my opinion it would make it harder to categorize a person properly and also it would make it a more generalized thing. Also for some questions I would have other reasons for choosing things then for the reason the quiz would think. If they had an option like a 12b question asking why you chose that answer then it would help a lot.

One problem I had with the quiz came from my discussions with some friends in the class, and that is how every got recommended World Of Warcraft to play. That really makes the legitamecy of the quiz less. It seemed to me that the quiz was really just one big advertisement for World of Warcraft.

Blog 2

So we finally played Vangaurd for the first time yesterday. The game was actually a lot of fun and I found myself getting really into it. Thank god I have a mac so that I can't play it out of class in my room or else I might become a addict. The game play seems really simple and I was able to get a hang of it relatively quickly. It seems that Vanguard is a great medium ground for both new players and old MMO players to go to. At first I wa a little confused playing the game, and I had no idea that we would have quests straight off the bat. I was kid of put off that there wasn't some kind of tutorial.

I guess my only realy question is that on the new beginner's area will there be an option to do a tutorial or will we just be thrown into the game again like last time.

questions and expectations of MMOs

I have never actually played an MMO.  TOday was my first experience and it was just with a mud.  At first I had no idea what i was doing, and the lack of images didn't really help, however once I got the hang of it, it became a lot of fun.  Based on that i expect playing vangaurd will be a pretty awesome.

Some questions I will have about the game.

How easy will the game be to a "newbie"  who has never played an MMO?

How will the interaction between characters?

Will it kind of be like Second Life, and if so to what extent?
